Chateau Musar Blanc 2007

In youth: yellow-gold, subtly oaky, and creamy-textured, rich yet dry and intensely citrusy, with honeyed nuances. Wholly unique, the style has been described as resembling ‘dry Sauternes’ or mature white Graves. Chateau Musar Whites develop tawny hues and mellow spicy characters as they age. The cellars at Ghazir holds bottles of this wine dating as far back as 1954.
Grapes and vines
Seven years in the making, Chateau Musar White is a blend of ancient grape varieties Obaideh and Merwah, indigenous to the mountains of Lebanon and said to be related to Chasselas Chardonnay and Semillon. The Obaideh vineyards are in the foothills of the Anti-Lebanon mountains on stony, chalky soils, while the Merwah vines are on the seaward side of Mount Lebanon, on calcareous gravels. Yields are very low for these untrained bushvines: 10 - 20 hl per hectare. At high altitude (around 1400m) they are still on their own roots, among very few vineyards in the world of this calibre.
Chateau Musar White is fermented in French oak barriques (from the forest of Nevers) for 9 months, bottled and blended at the end of its first year and released seven years after the harvest.
Decanting and serving
Concentrated and complex, Chateau Musar Whites show at their best after several hours’ ‘breathing time’, and should be served ‘cellar cool’ at around 15°C. They excel with pâtés (especially foie gras), rillettes, seafood dishes and will match spicy food as the wine has such intense flavours.
To keep the wines showing at their best, bottles must be cellared in darkness, lying on their sides and not subjected to unnecessary movement or fluctuations in temperature.
La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Rioja 2007

The 2007 Viña Ardanza Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha, the Tempranillo from 30-year-old vineyards La Cuesta and Montecillo in the villages of Fuenmayor and Cenicero, and the Garnacha from old head-pruned vines at 600 meters altitude in Tudelilla, in Rioja Baja, from plots next to their Finca La Pedriza. Those should soon be mature enough to go into the wine (they were planted in 2004 and they will make it into the Ardanza blend from 2007-2008). The grapes are fermented separately with natural yeasts and the Tempranillo then matured in American oak barrels averaging four years old for 36 months, while the Garnacha matured in second- and third-use American oak barrels for 30 months. The nose is very fresh, with notes of beef blood, iron, cherries in liqueur, some subtle leather and spices plus notes of autumn forest and truffles. The palate is more lively and has some tannins that would feel better integrated with some food or a little bit of time in bottle It was bottled in November 2011. This will be released around September/October 2015, so by the time it hits the shelves it will be more polished. Great value for money.

Brilliant red. Lively, oak-spiced raspberry and cherry scents are complemented by candied rose and vanilla, with a smoky mineral topnote providing added lift. Sappy and seamless on the palate, offering juicy red fruit, mocha and coconut flavors plus a suggestion of sweet chewing tobacco. In a graceful, approachable style, finishing with strong, thrust and silky, late-arriving tannins. While this suave Rioja is quite enjoyable now, I'd give it some more time in the cellar so that the American oak is able to integrate with the wine's fruit.

Dry, leathery, slightly nutty aromas are more earthy than fruity. This mature Rioja is fresh and light on the palate, with leafy, spicy flavors of plum, tobacco and wood grain. Spicy berry and cocoa flavors grace a fading finish.

Intense, rich, many-layered vanilla-and-toast nose. This is one of Majestic’s sure-fire bets. Long may this continue! Classic traditional rich Rioja. Attractive freshness on the finish.

酒莊：Cecilia Beretta is the jewel of Pasqua Family and the prime objective of the Cecilia Beretta estate is to recapture the force and personality of the traditional of the Valpolicella area. The activity is geared towards making a smallish range of very fine wines. Amarone, the most prestigious wine of the Valpolicella area, is made from grapes that undergoes, after harvest, a process known as “appassimento”, or semi-drying. This Amarone is obtained only from vineyards of Terre di Cariano at the heart of Valpolicella Classica.
釀造：This Amarone is obtained only from the best bunches of the Valpolicella grapes, carefully harvested by hand at the end of September and placed in the fruttaio, where they are left to raisin in wooden crates per 3 months. After raisining, the grapes increases in sugar extracts by 25-30%. The dried grapes are pressed and left to ferment for 25-30 days. Afterwards 70% of the wine is placed in oak and cherry barriques and the remaining is placed in larger tonneaux where malolactic fermentation takes place. After 14-16 months, the wine is bottled where ages for at least 6 months.

Playing true to type, the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is another of the more open wines in this vintage. But that is only in relative terms. Layers of expressive red fruit, crushed flowers and spices flesh out in this radiant Barbaresco. In most vintages the Pora is one of the more accessible of the Riservas when young. The close proximity of the vineyard to the Tanaro River results in a warm microclimate that ripens the fruit earlier than elsewhere. In 2008, though, the Pora packs a serious punch. The coolness of the late harvest comes through in a finish laced with considerable tension and minerality. This is easily one of the very best Poras I have ever tasted from the Produttori. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2048.

full red, magenta and black traces. Supple but full red berry aroma, chocolate in behind, hence depth. Measured, reserved fruit that is entering a dumb moment on the palate. The elements suggest it is balanced, and this cohesion will serve it well. The clean fruit prolongs correctly, the tannins are well set, lend extra chewiness. Interesting wine in the making, can be varied. From spring 2010. 2018-19
From Winery : This strong, warm wine comes from a selection of grapes on exceptio- nal land. In fact our vineyards in Gigondas are situated on the arid hills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The Mistral blows regularly on these slopes which limits the amount of treatment needed to the vines. The vines grow in stony fields, which is rare, and produce wine that can be kept easily for 10 yrs.
Aromas of pepper, red fruits, are intense and persistent; very interes- ting to discover young. Its robe is steady, stable, the tannins silky, some say feminine compared to the more rustic Vacqueyras. Strong dishes such as deer and wild boar can subdue this prestigious wine. If perchance this wine is not finished with game, it remains incomparable with Reblochon, St Nectaire, and other strong cheeses.
Giacomo Conterno Barbera d'Alba "Cerretta" 2009

91 Points Antonio Galloni: Deep ruby-red. Pristine, high-pitched aromas of black fruits. Seriously rich, with powerful acidity and strong alcohol giving shape to the almost candied blackberry, black raspberry and cassis flavors. A bit aggressive on the back end but this is a fruit bomb, from a yield of no more than 35 hectoliters per hectare.
91 Points Robert Parker: The 2009 Barbera d'Alba Cerretta is a huge wine bursting with dark red cherries, plums, sweet herbs, rose petal and all sorts of mineral notes. Smoke, ash and tar develop in the glass. The 2009 Cerretta is an intense, virile Barbera that needs at least a few years in bottle to drop some of its baby fat. The richness and depth are impressive considering this is only the second vintage Conterno has made the wine. Mineral notes develop on the finish, but the Cerretta is ultimately more about fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
Ridge Lytton Springs 2011

The 2011 Lytton Springs has a wonderful burst immediacy to it, backed up by the structure of the year. This isn't the most nuanced Lytton Springs in recent memory. Despite its considerable appeal today, my sense is the 2011 needs a few more years in bottle for all of the elements to fully come together. The blend is 82% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah and 2% Carignane.

(includes 16% petite sirah and 2% carignane): Opaque ruby. Dark berry and vanilla scents are lifted by smoky spice and mineral qualities and a touch of white pepper. Sappy and appealingly sweet, offering energetic boysenberry and blueberry flavors that become more tangy with air. Silky and assertively spicy on a penetrating finish that leaves subtle floral and mocha notes on the palate.

Wine Advocate (181), February 2009 Since 2002, this great terroir has been fully exploited by the dynamic duo of Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt. Following the monumental 2005,a legend in the making, it is hard to get excited about the 2006, even though it is an outstanding effort. While more austere and not as concentrated as its predecessor, it is an impressive blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc displaying a deep, dark ruby color as well as a striking bouquet of powdered rocks/minerals, sweet cherry and plum-like fruit, and hints of Christmas fruitcake and spice box. It is an elegant, medium-bodied, moderately tannic, pure effort possessing outstanding density. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 15-20 years.

the 2006 Château Larcis Ducasse is maturing nicely, far better than the Beauséjour Duffau Lagarrosse that I tasted side by side. It has plenty of ripe black cherry, strawberry pastille and creme de cassis on the nose, quite opulent for the vintage and well defined. The palate is medium bodied with fine tannin cloaked in ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit; underlying all of this is a seam of cold stone that imparts freshness and satisfying tension on the finish. This is well worth seeking out and is performing at a much higher level than the 2006 Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarosse.

It is complex and structured within its medium-bodied palate. This is superb value. Drink 2014-2017.

如果你搭國泰航空的頭等艙，將有機會飲到一款名叫“周伯通”既法國紅酒。 “周伯通”來自波爾多聖茱利安產區的四級酒莊，國泰航空2006年3月3日係香港舉行中文命名儀式，宣布以金庸先生著名武俠小說《射雕英雄傳》入面既小說人物“周伯通”作為Chateau Branaire-Ducru的中文名，武功超脫，性格樂天，喜愛逍遙自在，正好表現出呢支佳釀之獨特氣派。黑莓黑櫻桃，奶油，香草，菌類，辛香料，木桶。酒體中等偏厚，單寧順滑，優雅，回味較長。
唔講唔知，係寸土寸金既saint-Julien 村入面，周伯通酒莊俾最多名莊環抱，包括二級莊寶嘉龍Ducru Beaucaillou, 金玫瑰Gruaud Larose, 四級莊 龍船Beychevelle, 百花齊放，但不失個性，得到頗多飲家追捧。

When the Château Angélus philosophy of excellence is applied to a selection of young vines on the estate, No. 3 d’Angélus results. Blended with 85 to 90% Merlot, this wine is made for instant enjoyment as soon as it is delivered from the winery. It is fruity, round and elegant; a streamlined version of its illustrious “parents”, which gives consumers something to drink while they wait for the number of years necessary for the main wine and its majestic second to reach their respective peaks. The vines used to grow No. 3 d’Angélus are cultivated with the same care as those used to make its elders and their fruit is vinified with the same precision. The yields are larger and the wine is aged for a shorter period with no recourse to new wood: only one- or two-year-old barrels are used. No. 3 d’Angélus is an easy-going, attractive wine, which gives its all when very young and can yet benefit from being kept for five to eight years.

92 Points James Suckling: This is fantastic. Gorgeous acidity and minerality with dried pear and apple. Lemon and other ctirus undertones; hints of grapefruit. Full to medium body. Very long and fresh. You want to drink this in warm weather to freshen up.

Perhaps no further ink needs to be spilt on Two Hands Zippy's Block Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2007. In addition to Parker et al who awarded WA93, Josh Raynolds and James Halliday commented the wine as follows:
‘Bright purple. Complex, pungent aromas of raspberry, blackberry, potpourri and incense, with a suave mineral note adding vibrancy. Sweet, minerally and densely packed, with terrific sappy vivacity to the flavors of raspberry and cherry preserves and minerals. With air, the spiciness gained strength and sexy floral notes emerged. Finishes with impressive breadth, fully ripe, gentle tannins and superb length.’ Some 94 points were awarded from Josh Raynolds, International Wine Cellar, August 2009.

The Zippy's Block Single Vineyard is one of the 6 to 7 single vineyards of Two hands. In terms of quality, wines from these wines play second fiddle only to the Flagship wines(and Ares Shiraz is the top-top Shiraz ) and is ranked much higher than the super-premium range of Garden Series which is from the best regional fruit. Of course, Zippy's Block is from an exceptional single vineyard site in Marananga. This block is special because it always has an extremely low yield and takes longer to reach full maturity. This wine has a complex bouquet followed by an opulent, elegant, viscous and supple palate. Wine style is true Barossa valley (fruit, power and concentration) clothed in an elegant and softer format. Skin contact duration is 19-day, using old French oak for 18 month. Of cork closure, this wine is 14.7% alc.
Vintage 2007 of the Zippy's Block Single Vineyard Barossa Valley is different to the other vintages in that the wine very best perfumed characters, supple tannin and a warmth that has allowed for early drinking. Consider the recommended drink wine of 15 to 20 years, this wine is probably more readied to savour now.

If Viña Ardanza seems to be going fast, the Gran Reserva 904 is even faster and we're now on the 2007 Gran Reserva 904. This wants to be the classic Gran Reserva--polished, silky and elegant, with aging potential. It is a blend of Tempranillo with 10% Mazuelo aged for four years in well-seasoned American oak barrels, with eight manual rackings. I found that the freshness of the vintage and its relatively young age gave the wine a youngish character that I loved, combining developed notes of meat, spices, leather and balsam with almost cherry-like aromas. The palate feels balanced and elegant, with fine-grained and fully resolved tannins and great acidity. This vintage of 904 surprised me! 150,000 bottles produced.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VINTAGE
Winter and Spring were dry. Since the beginning, climatic conditions predicted an early vintage. The water deficit worsened a little more up to July and the high temperatures in June made the vine suffered. The Merlot sagged after flowering because of these unusual dryness and heat.
2011 experienced unusual weather conditions that ultimately benefited many Cabernet Sauvignons. The grapes had a very good concentration of phenol compounds and very elegant tannins. The challenge of this vintage was a very strict sorting of the grapes. However, there is a lower yield (- 10%) due to the weather, and the berries were rather small with a thick skin.

The 2004 Chateau Musar is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault. This is a rather civilized, laid back Musar... Its balance, combining the nice fruit, elegant mid-palate, persistent finish and backbone, gives it a tightly wound, precise and focused demeanor. The tannins are not completely integrated, but not overly hard. They provided some welcome grip and vibrancy and never overwhelmed the wine. In the long run, they should serve this wine in good stead. Overall, it is an exceptionally graceful, somewhat modern and restrained Musar, bright, with that silky texture I saw in the Hochar reviewed this issue, while adding those layers of concentration. The cherry on top is the intensity of fruit flavor – bursts of delicious and juicy fruit on the finish, admittedly nuanced by some of the gamey notes I see here so often. Call it raspberry flavored, though, because the fruit is delicious. The gamey notes were in fact moderate and, at least for my taste, not an issue. As this rather subtle Musar aired out, I liked it more and more. I’ve had Musars that were bigger, burlier, more rustic and more astringent. Here, the subtle start was unremarkable, but it gathered steam, showed remarkable finesse and then won me over. This will certainly do better with food. Drink now-2021.

Or was it Charles Baudelaire, who is said to have come to Moulis in the 1860s because the artist Odilon Redon, who illustrated Les Fleurs du Mal, lived near the estate? Not included in the 1855 Classification, the château was listed as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 1932, and confirmed in 2003 in recognition of its excellent quality. Bernadette Villars took over managing the estate in 1976, followed by her elder daughter, Claire, from 1992 to 1999, and her younger daughter, Céline, since 2000. From the Villars family, the 2012 Chasse-Spleen has a saturated ruby/purple color and chunky, medium-bodied flavors of cassis, earth and spice, It cuts a somewhat powerful personality across the palate and finishes with moderate tannin. This is a good to very good Mèdoc that will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and last for 12-15 years.
