Winemaker notes: We didn't release Valbelle in 2008 because the wine had been blended into the Gigondas Classique. This is nice to see Valbelle coming back in 2009 with its very specific style. It generates complexity, depth and balance. 2009 Valbelle combines well the tannic power of the vintage with the roundness and the softness always found in Valbelle. Find notes of strawberry, thyme, white pepper and graphite.

90 points The Wine Advocate: The 2013 Cotes du Rhone Les Deux Albions is 50-60% Syrah and the rest Grenache and other permitted varieties. It exhibits classic Syrah character with its sweet dark fruits, pepper, wood smoke and crushed rock-like minerality. Medium to full-bodied, it bucks the vintage stereotype and has a rounded, supple texture, good concentration and plenty of length. Possibly outstanding, it should have a decade of longevity. 

Winemaker Notes: Co-fermented in concrete vats as usual, it develops a good density, good color and a length that is usual of a great vintage. 80% of the cuvée was aged in concrete vats, which help to create the best expression. Its fruit full of terroir develops and shows characteristics of gingerbread, strawberries and violets.

With tremendous intensity, full body and supple tannins, it should drink well for 10-15 years, perhaps longer where well-stored. This cuvee is always one of the best buys in the Northern Rhone.

full red, magenta and black traces. Supple but full red berry aroma, chocolate in behind, hence depth. Measured, reserved fruit that is entering a dumb moment on the palate. The elements suggest it is balanced, and this cohesion will serve it well. The clean fruit prolongs correctly, the tannins are well set, lend extra chewiness. Interesting wine in the making, can be varied. From spring 2010. 2018-19

From Winery : This strong, warm wine comes from a selection of grapes on exceptio- nal land. In fact our vineyards in Gigondas are situated on the arid hills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The Mistral blows regularly on these slopes which limits the amount of treatment needed to the vines. The vines grow in stony fields, which is rare, and produce wine that can be kept easily for 10 yrs.

Aromas of pepper, red fruits, are intense and persistent; very interes- ting to discover young. Its robe is steady, stable, the tannins silky, some say feminine compared to the more rustic Vacqueyras. Strong dishes such as deer and wild boar can subdue this prestigious wine. If perchance this wine is not finished with game, it remains incomparable with Reblochon, St Nectaire, and other strong cheeses.

This chewy, rich offering appears to be on a faster evolutionary track than its 2002 counterpart. Give it another 2-3 years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 12-15.

Outsized and thick, with dense, sweet dark berry flavors and an almost viscous texture. And yet this massive wine comes across as energetic and surprisingly elegant. The long, sappy finish features powerful dark berry liqueur flavors that won't quit.

More serious and endowed with more muscle and richness is the 2011 Perrin Vinsobres Les Cornuds. This wine comes from the very cool northern sector of the Cotes du Rhône appellation, which is a treasure trove for Syrah. The Perrins vinify the Syrah in truncated tanks and then age it in barrel, while the Grenache is fermented and aged in stainless steel, with blending taking place after six months. This beautiful 2011 displays plenty of black cherry fruit and lavender as well as hints of blackberry, licorice and graphite. Medium-bodied, richly fruity and offering loads of perfume, this is a wine to drink over the next several years.

We really like the terroir of Vinsobres, a beautiful village located near Vaison la Romaine; The vineyard is at an altitude of 300m and is situated for the most part on terraces. Vinsobres is particularly suitable for Syrah because it preserves the finesse which is often lost in more southern climates. It develops notes of violet, smoked meat and blackberries. Grenache is also suited to this terroir, full bodied and not heavy, with notes of black chocolate, cherry and typical Garrigue aromas.

The 2005 Alice's Shiraz spent 28 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads. Aromas of smoke, asphalt, meat, game, truffle, and blueberry soar from the glass. On the palate this full-bodied Shiraz is velvety-textured, layered, spicy, and richly fruity. While not quite as riveting as the 2004 edition, it has enough structure to evolve for several years and should drink well through 2025. Greenock Creek Vineyard & Cellars, owned by Michael and Annabelle Waugh, remains one of South Australia's iconic wineries. Start with a great terroir, add in old vine material and meticulous winemaking, and end with extraordinary results.

After basket pressing & fermentation in open top fermenters built in 1896, the wine is matured for over 2 years in new American & Baltic oak producing intense flavour & great longevity. The Block 6 Shiraz comes from centurion vines plated in 1896. The 2006 Block 6 Shiraz has a very deep garnet color going a little brick in the rim and an evolved, earthy / gamey nose with notes of mulberries, dried plums, kirsch and tobacco plus menthol, cinnamon stick, licorice and espresso. Rich and full yet elegantly constructed, it presents a medium level of very fine tannins, crisp acid and a long layered finish. A very fine glass now, it should continue to cellar to 2019+.

A dark, brooding wine of rather large proportions, but put together with aplomb; at the core there is an abundance of sweet fruit, and the structure is dense, tannic and chewy and requires a little time to soften; should reward patience well.

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate( Oct 2007) : The 2006 Shiraz “Savitar” was aged in 100% new oak, predominantly French. Purple-colored, the aromatics are a bit reticent initially, but soon scents of toasty oak, tar, licorice, scorched earth, and blueberry emerge. This leads to a wine which is more structured and less opulent than its peers. It will evolve for a minimum of 8-10 years and drink well through 2040. As a point of reference, the 2002 Savitar (rated 95) was presented. It is considerably more developed aromatically but still has a significant distance to travel prior to reaching its peak. 

93 points Vinous (Sep 2008): Inky violet. Powerful dark berry liqueur and cherry-vanilla on the nose, with sexy floral and incense qualities adding complexity. Broad and juicy, with deeply concentrated blackberry and boysenberry flavors, supple tannins and slow-building anise and sassafras on the back. Generous but focused shiraz with excellent finishing energy and persistence. Still quite primary, but there'd be no crime in drinking this after giving it an hour or so in a decanter. 

90 points Wine Spectator( Mar 2008):  Firm in texture, with lively blueberry and wild blackberry flavors poking through a layer of fine-grained tannins, finishing with real refinement. 350 cases imported.
