The 2011 Barolo Ravera does a terrific job of portraying the soft and rich side of the vintage with a slightly more accessible style. The wine opens to dark extraction and bright cherry flavors with spice, tobacco, black truffle, pressed rose petal and licorice. It shows a youthful, vibrant personality with a pristine varietal voice. If you are looking for an opulent, caressing Barolo, this wine fits the bill. The Ravera vineyard is planted to 50-year-old vines that hold up very nicely in warm vintages such as 2011. It has the natural structure and heft necessary for longer aging. (ML)

The 2011 Barolo Ravera emerges from the oldest vines on the property. Dark cherry, plum, spice, new leather and lavender swirl around the glass in a resonant, generous Barolo that captures the generosity of the year as seen through the lens of Ravera. In this vintage, the Ravera is an especially weightless and simply impeccable in its overall balance. Hints of leather, sweet spices add nuance on the soft yet energetic finish. The 2013 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine was matured in 500-liter barrels for around 36 months. It has a beautiful bouquet with honey, quince, pressed yellow flowers and Mirabelle. It has wonderful definition and purity. The palate is very well balanced with a mellifluous texture and beautifully judged acidity as it just sashays along. It fans out on the finish with honey, quince, a touch of rhubarb and ginger, extraordinarily persistent in the mouth. Matthew Day, current winemaker, opined that he thought the 2012 would be the best ever, but the freshness might see it overtaken. This is awesome.

La Tour Haut-Brion也全部用來生產La Chapelle de la Mission。Ch. Today, the 2014 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is powerful, structured and also a touch compact, with a bit less apparent breadth than it showed from barrel. Smoke, tobacco, licorice, cedar, French oak and dark stone fruit notes struggle to fully emerge. Today the tannins are especially forbidding. There is good energy and tension in the glass. Perhaps it is the high % of Cabernet Franc that is shutting the wine down. The 2014 is very pretty, but it is not an especially forthcoming second wine. Even so, the bright floral and red-fruit-toned notes make me think it will drink nicely for a number of years.

創立於 1825 年的 Faiveley 是勃根地 Nuits St Georges 的代表性酒商 Negocient,但更像是一家大型的獨立酒莊。Faiveley 本業是生產法國高鐵 TGV 車門的大型企業,這樣的酒廠在Burgundy 幾乎是獨一無二,以大企業的嚴謹管理,幾乎是不計成本來經營。Faiveley 擁有 120 公頃的葡萄園,主要集中在Cote de Nuits 夜丘,自有地monopole的比例高達 80%。

目前由第七代 Erwan Faiveley 經營,2004 年禮聘原 Bouchard Pere & Fils 釀酒總管 Bernard Hervet 加入,改變原來需要時間柔化的嚴肅印象,創造出不同以往的Faiveley全新風格,年輕時展現出細膩誘人姿態,亦可陳年很久。

今日介紹呢支係 Gevrey Chambertin村的一級田Monopole "Clos des Issarts" , 面積僅0.6 ,位處Grand Cru特級田 Ruchottes-Chambertin旁邊,葡萄酒大師 Jasper Morris MW 稱讚此田 : "the vineyard makes a delightfully fine-boned style of premier cru Gevrey". 質量拍得住特級田。因為面積幾乎是此村最細的一塊,年產只有幾千支。

16個月40-50%新法國橡木桶,另外50-60%1年舊桶。酒莊建議陳年7-12年,現在已進入適飲期。

There is an appealing freshness to the cherry, raspberry, truffle and earth-infused nose that even has an interesting if odd hint of citrus peel to it. There is excellent richness and volume to the punchy middle weight flavors that display fine depth and length on the mineral-laden finish. This is first rate and one of the better young examples of this wine that I have had.

95 pts James Suckling (2014): I love the aromas of black truffles, rosemary, dark fruits, rose petals and stones. It's shows so many characteristics of Tuscany on the nose. Full body with super-fine tannins and a long finish. Tannins and all in place. Wonderful texture. Better in 2016 but hard not to drink now. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot and 5% syrah.

媲美"女人頭Le Pergole Torte"的 Isole e Olena 來自偏西邊的 Castellina村北面的Barberino Val d'Elsa,由兩塊田Isole和Olena組成,位於Chianti Classico,海拔400米。莊主Paolo De Marchi是最早在CC採用100%Sangiovese的酒莊之一,Paolo來自Piedmont地區,之前他沒有任何葡萄酒釀造經驗,全憑自己的努力,謙虛的精神和沈穩的性格,在沒有聘請顧問的情況下,創造了100%純Sangiovese的Cepparello。 Nicolas Belfrage曾問他什麼使他有動力這麼投入創作了Cepparello,Paolo說“I wanted to understand Sangiovese。” 他的理念是將葡萄酒和生長葡萄的土地鏈接在一起,真實展示出Chianti風土的典型性。

"Cepparello" 是酒莊的旗艦酒款。呈現了Barberino Val d'Elsa 風土帶來的power,入口丹寧有力,骨架強健,又十分的優雅,給人一種很Man的感覺,又覺得很深邃,複雜度很高,蘑菇,烤杏仁,果丹皮,花香,很有活力。陳年後,更有菌菇,肉湯,櫻桃的香氣絡繹不絕,讓很多酒友想起了Chambertin中的王者Domaine Armand Rousseau。

The 2012 Cepparello is just as compelling as it has always been. Sweet, ample and generous from the outset, the 2012 shows all of its pedigree, even at this early stage. Radiant fruit and exquisite aromatics make a strong opening statement as the wine fleshes out in the glass. Ample, creamy and super-expressive, the 2012 is shaping up to be a superb Cepparello. The only thing the 2012 needs is time. An up and down year with hot temperatures in July and early August, followed by rain in September forced DeMarchi to be especially selective and bottle only the best lots. Production is down to 30,000 bottles from 36,000 in 2013 and 32,400 in 2011.

Pretty bright fruit with blackcurrant, violet and sandalwood aromas and flavors. Full body, firm and linear tannins and a fresh finish. Needs two or three years to soften. Cepparello is always a classic. Better in 2017.

This imposing estate owes its name to Connetable Talbot, the English general and governor of the province of Guyenne who was defeated at the famous Battle of Castillon in 1453.

Talbot's vines grow in an ideal location bordering an estuary, on some of the region's most highly prized gravel rises which alone produce great wine. Talbot is one of the oldest estates in the Medoc, and its reputation has been in the hands of experienced managers, and always shown itself to be worthy of its inclusion in the 1855 classification.

Owners of Talbot since the early 20th century, the Cordier family have perpetuation the commitment to quality of their predecessors. At Talbot, wine is very much past, present, and future. Therefore, tradition and technical innovations both count a great deal.

From a mixture of sand, gravel, and clay soils, this unheralded terroir produces wines well-above its pedigree thanks to the extraordinary efforts of proprietors Chantal and Gerard Perse. The wines are given a 4- to 5-week maceration in both stainless steel and oak, and are aged sur-lie in new oak. The dark ruby/purple-colored 2003 offers up notes of smoky meats, melted licorice, jammy black cherries, spice box, earth, and cedar. This plump, fleshy, sexy, unfined, unfiltered wine represents a classic blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2003 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port improved each time I raised it to my nose or mouth. It displays a black color and a salty, graphite-laced nose packed with sweet black fruits that is reminiscent of a stellar vintage of Chateau Latour. The 2010 Valpolicella Superiore is a utterly fascinating wine from Dal Forno in this vintage. Composed from 70% Corvina and Corvina Grossa, 20% Rondinella, 5% Croatina, 5% Oseleta, the selected grapes are then placed in plastic plateaux and are left to rest for 45 days in large open rooms, where an innovative ventilation system helps maintain an elevated and thorough air flow. After the racking process, the Valpolicella rests for a few days in stainless steel tanks and subsequently is placed in new barriques to mature for 36 long months. The result is a wine which displays a pitch dark, inky color, followed by complex aromatics of ripe black currants, black cherries, mission figs woven together with espresso, grilled herbs, bittersweet chocolate, graphite and some earthy loam and straw characteristics all taking shape in this seductive Valpolicella. On this palate this is full-bodied with beautifully polished tannins and remarkable overall structure and balance, with impressive minerality at it core. It all comes together beautifully on the long, expansive finish which lingers on and on. It seems as if this wine continues to improve in quality each vintage, and the 2010 is the most compelling Valpolicella I have ever tasted from the estate. Overall, this is another total success from the Dal Forno Family. (Best 2019-2030)

I reported on the current release, the 2001 Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial, previously but underrated it slightly. This cuvee is sourced from a single plot called La Plana planted at over 1500 feet of elevation. It is made up of 93% Tempranillo and 7% Mazuelo chosen for its acidity. The wine is aged for 10 months in new American oak followed by 21 months in seasoned oak. It is then held in bottle for 3-4 years prior to release. Deeply colored, spicy, elegant and complex, the wine has great volume and grip as well as exceptional length. It can be approached now but will easily have a 30 year lifespan.

"It has a light but well defined bouquet with notes of redcurrant, boysenberry, mint leaf and cedar with good intensity and vigour. It reminds more of Las-Cases ’81 in some ways. The palate is medium-bodied with a dry, quite savoury entry, powdery and slightly edgy tannins. The fruit appears to be fading although the secondary flavours and compensating with touches of Chinese 5-spice, orange zest, dried blood and sandalwood. Classic old skool St-Julien towards the finish that has moderate length."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Oct 1989): A top success for the vintage, the 1981 Gruaud-Larose is dark ruby, with a full-intensity bouquet of ripe black currants, spicy oak, plums, leather, smoked meat, and violets. This wine is concentrated on the palate, with rich, tannic, lingering flavors.

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Annata is silky, soft and open-knit, especially within the context of what has been the norm at Biondi Santi for the last few decades. Freshly cut flowers, red berries and mint all open up in the glass, but it is the wine's decidedly mid-weight structure that truly stands out. The 2011 is a very rare young Biondi Santi that will drink well pretty much upon release, as shocked as I myself am to write those words. The bright red cherry, raspberry and floral overtones have an almost Nebbiolo-sense of brightness. Drink 2017-2031

Jacopo Biondi Santi was already making wine at Il Greppo when the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Annata was produced. His father, Franco Biondi Santi, would pass away in 2013 at the age of 91. The winemaking approach is unchanged despite the father to son transition. This wine shows extra richness and texture with focused fruit aromas that are graceful but also powerful. There are hints of ripe fruit with dried cherry and prune buried deep within the bouquet. In the mouth, this Brunello shows good structure and acidity with a slightly denser feel compared to past vintages.

Geantet-Pansiot 是勃根地近年受追捧的新進酒莊,歷史五十年左右,以 Gevrey Chambertin 為基地,全系列的 Gevrey Chambertin 村莊級、一級園的品質都非常優秀穩定。莊主Vincent Geantet 於 1989 年接手父親留下這座 11公頃的酒廠,兒子 Fabien 自 2006 年起加入協助父親釀酒。

酒莊 唯一一塊一級園Le Poissenot,靠近Clos St-Jacques的上方,鄰接上坡處的La Romanee,Le Poissenot和媲美頂級園的Clos St-Jacques一樣有著高比例石灰的黏土和泥灰質土,酒質均衡精緻且充滿紮實的複雜層次與深度,深受莊主Vincent Geantet的喜愛。果實會經4次篩選,10 度10 天冷浸泡,20-22 天不超過 35 度發酵,沉澱2天後導入橡木桶。其 Bourgogne 到頂級酒 Charmes 皆採30%新桶,12-14個月桶陳後入樽。

2010年是難得的靚年,呈現著深紅色澤,散發出野花、礦石、果香氣息。入口後煙燻、皮革、辛香味,酒體平衡、圓潤濃郁。

Note: from a mix of Brochon vines planted between 1922 and 1961 that average 60+ years of age; in 2010 this has the Les Jeunes Rois fruit in it.

A gorgeously complex and lightly spiced nose serves up notes of violet, plum and plenty of pungent earth that is also reflected by the dense and serious medium-bodied flavors. There is excellent volume and concentration to the mid-palate that possesses impeccable phenolic ripeness, all wrapped in a seductive yet linear finish. This is very Gevrey in character with a brawny yet not overtly rustic mouth feel. Recommended.

The 2008 Barolo Aeroplanservaj puts on a whole different act. Here, the emphasis is on elegance and finesse. The opulence and massiveness of the wine fits in with the Clerico philosophy, but unlike the Barolo Briccotto its strongest cards are played with a more subtle strategy. The aromas of black fruit and spice are wrapped a bit tighter, and the wine shows some nervous tension in the glass that needs to soften with age. I loved those delicate sprigs of mint and wild flower that somehow emerge from the inner depths of this rock-solid wine. Terrible mudslides in 2009 damaged the Badarina vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba and Clerico did not produce the Aeroplanservaj that year. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030.

This is fresh and racy, with a base of granular tannins buoying the cherry, menthol and balsamic notes. Long and spicy, this is balanced on the tannic side. Best from 2016 through 2028.
