Chateau Certan Marzelle Pomerol 2006

Château Certan-Marzelle combines, in a unique way, both tradition and modernism. Sharing its denomination with Vieux Château Certan and Château Certan de May, the property was originally part of Château Certan Giraud. 

Unlike its mythical neighbors, Château Certan Marzelle is planted with 100% Merlot, and its 20 year-old vines produce wines with great softness and charm. This wine is to be enjoyed in its youth as well as after a few years of aging.

Another tightly knit wine, despite the fact it is made from 100% Merlot and was showing an opulent, flamboyant character from barrel, this wine now displays excellent density, sweet black cherry fruit intermixed with pain grille, hints of crushed rock, and a distinct earthiness. There is plenty of density, but the wine exhibits relatively high tannins in the finish and seems to be going through an extremely closed state. Give it 3-4 years and drink it over the following 15.

La Petite Eglise 是波爾多 Pomerol 區著名酒莊 Chateau l’Eglise-Clinet 的副牌,個性與風味近似於正牌 l’Eglise-Clinet。酒中帶有優美圓熟的莓果、泥土與樹皮芬芳,中度飽滿,單寧堅實,可即飲。

1882 年時,現任莊主 Denis Durantou 的曾曾祖父將當時 Clos de l’Eglise 與 Domaine de Clinet 兩家的葡萄園合併,創立了 Chateau l’Eglise-Clinet。時至今日,葡萄園面積約有 5.5 公頃,不過真正釀造l’Eglise-Clinet的僅有3.5公頃,其餘的全釀成副牌 La Petite Eglise 出售。園內種植了許多老樹,平均年齡約45年,有 85% 的 Merlot 及15 % 的 Cabernet Franc 葡萄。

近幾年l’Eglise-Clinet 已成功躍升為 Pomerol 精英酒莊之列,除了坐落於緩坡上,土壤及地理條件相當優秀外,Denis Durantou 對葡萄園悉心照料與崇尚自然的釀酒技術亦是l’Eglise-Clinet 成功的主因之一。(他將大部分的時間花在照料葡萄園,釀酒方法相當簡單。) Chateau l’Eglise-Clinet 的風格圓滑多汁、是有著豐富濃郁果味的 Pomerol 紅酒。  網址: www.denis-durantou.com

The Deuxieme Vin of La Petite Eglise is pure Merlot picked on 16th September that is aged in 50% new barrels. It has a refined bouquet with pure blackberry and raspberry with well-integrated creamy new oak that does not impede upon the fruit profile. With time it offers a touch of cedar that is very attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive balance and a silky smooth texture. It has some oak to subsume so it will need 3-4 years in bottle, though it does not have the tension or persistency one can find in the 2009 or 2010. Still, this is very fine and probably will be good value. Tasted April 2012.

The second wine of L'Eglise Clinet is better than many châteaux's top wines in 2011. This is extremely fine and aromatic, more open than it often is at such a young age, with sweet fruitcake and red cherries on the palate, filigree tannins and a classy, perfumed finish. It's denser than it seems at first, and should age well. 10+ years.

2nd wine of Chateau Le Gay, aged in oak casks for 18-20 months. Located in the vicinity of Château Pétrus, this small estate shares history with the property across the road, Chateau Lafleur. 

The wine is pure Merlot from the younger vines in the field. Made with the same means and the same jurisdiction as “Castle Gay”, the critically acclaimed wine, the second is particularly attractive. Elegant and generous Pomerol, marked by a great fruity flavor, it is an interesting price / quality ratio.

Starts slow but picks up steam in a hurry, with toasted anise, plum cake and fig notes which are darker and richer in profile than most Pomerols in 2011. Nice fleshy feel through the finish. Score range: 89-92”

The 2011 Manoir de Gay offers a combination of crushed rock and raspberry characteristics along with vivid minerality in addition to blue and red fruits. This medium-bodied, well-made second wine clearly reflects its more prestigious sibling. Consume it over the next 6-8 years.
