D'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2006

產區:McLaren Vale, South Australia

95 Points Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate - "d'Arenberg's flagship is the 2006 The Dead Arm Shiraz. Opaque purple-colored, the nose is reticent but gives up aromas of meat, bacon, game, truffles, blueberry, and blackberry. Firm, layered, and complex, this beautifully rendered Shiraz demands a decade of cellaring. It will be superb from 2018 to 2036. d'Arenberg has been owned and operated by the Osborn family since its inception in 1912. The portfolio, with a focus on the Rhone varieties, is wide ranging and value-oriented from top to bottom. The winery produces a bevy of value priced reds and whites that were reviewed in Issue 178. They should not be overlooked. At the higher end of the portfolio there is one white wine on which to report.

95 Points James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion - "The Dead Arm rarely fails to deliver an uncompromising essay on McLaren fruit; deeply concentrated with levels of dark chocolate, blackberry, nuances of florals and a freshness that belies its weight and power. Good value."

Carnival of Love Mollydooker 2014

產區:Mclaren Vale, Australia

品種:100% Shiraz

#30 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2016

Luscious cherry, blackberry and plum jam fruit flavors marry together, forming this powerful yet elegant Shiraz. Made from a selection of McLaren Vale's premier grapes, its deep color and fragrant nose leads to quite a voluptuous palate of fruit intertwined with rich mocha, coffee and chocolate, with traces of licorice and toffee. Carnival of Love offers exceptional complexity while remaining balanced and delightful to drink.

95 Points, Wine Spectator - "Bold, expressive, velvety and generous, with ripe cherry and plum flavors at the core. Complex details of vanilla bean, licorice, Earl Grey tea and gingerbread explode on the long finish. Drink now through 2030. "

95 Points, Tasting Panel - "Shiraz in all its glory! Black currants, blackberries, mulberries -- you name it; licorice, spice and lovely structure; a stunning wine that keeps on giving."

D'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2002

產區:McLaren Vale, South Australia

94 points James Halliday (Oct 2004):

Clean and quite fragrant; abundant blackberry and dark chocolate fruit; controlled extract and good balance.

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Oct 2005):

After re-tasting the 2002 The Dead Arm Shiraz, I believe my initial rating is correct. It still plays it close to the vest, exhibiting loads of cassis, asphalt, smoke, and barbecue spice-like aromas along with full-bodied flavors.

92 points Wine Spectator (Dec 2004):

Rich, complex, but not at all heavy-handed, a plush, heady mouthful of black cherry, blackberry, menthol and a wee touch of forest mushroom, all mingling in a rich finish that lasts and lasts.

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jul 2004):

Bright full ruby. Varietally expressive aromas of currant, espresso, smoke, gunflint and sexy oak, with a distinctly feral note. Highly concentrated, dense and smoky, with a strong Syrah note of gunflint. Broad, mouthfilling Shiraz with lovely framing acidity, intriguing minerality and impressively sweet tannins.

Glaetzer Anaperenna 2013

Age of vines: 30 - 100 year old Shiraz, 30-130 year old Cabernet
WA 94  Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz Cabernet Anaperenna is intensely scented of cassis, crushed blackberries and black cherries with hints of cedar, cloves and anise. Full-bodied and full-throttle on the flavors, it fills the mouth with primary black fruits and baking spices, supported by grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long.

Greenock Creek Alices Shiraz 2005

產區:Barossa, South Australia

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Feb 2009):

The 2005 Alice's Shiraz spent 28 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads. Aromas of smoke, asphalt, meat, game, truffle, and blueberry soar from the glass. On the palate this full-bodied Shiraz is velvety-textured, layered, spicy, and richly fruity. While not quite as riveting as the 2004 edition, it has enough structure to evolve for several years and should drink well through 2025. Greenock Creek Vineyard & Cellars, owned by Michael and Annabelle Waugh, remains one of South Australia's iconic wineries. Start with a great terroir, add in old vine material and meticulous winemaking, and end with extraordinary results.

93 points Wine Spectator (Oct 2008):

Dense, chewy and distinctive for its chocolate-scented plum and blackberry flavors that linger on the open-textured finish as the tannins seem to lighten up. Has a peppery, minty note on the finish.

John Duval Entity Shiraz 2014

前奔富首席釀酒師 John Duval rose to winemaking fame as the craftsman of the mighty Penfolds Grange, before going it alone to further forge his reputation as a maker of great Shiraz. The aim of The Entity is to produce a wine true to the region. Rich and complex it shows ripe, spicy fruit characters with a complex savoury oak influence framed by fine lingering tannins.

產區:Barossa, Australia

品種:100 % Shiraz, sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf, Eden Valley and Marananga regions.

熟成:100% barrel matured for 15 months, with 35% new fine grain French oak hogsheads (300 litres) and the balance in 2, 3 and 4 year old hogsheads

Winemaker : Dark fruit expression of blackberry and plum, gives way to some lifted floral notes and savoury, spicy French oak. Full bodied and generous with excellent concentration of blackberry fruit. Textured layers of fruit, balanced acidity and fine, long tannins will enable good cellaring potential.

96 Points James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion - "From old vineyards in Krondorf, Marananga and Eden Valley, open-fermented with submerged cap (header board), matured for 15 months in French oak (35% new). Succulent, rich and powerful, with predominantly black fruits and some spice. The hallmarks are its supple mouthfeel and effortless balance."

93 Points Wine Enthusiast - "Dark berry and plum fruit dominates, but hints of mint, vanilla and cedar add interest. Somewhere between silky and velvety, this full-bodied, richly textured Shiraz finishes long and appears to have the tannic structure to age well, though it's delicious now.

John Duval Plexus SGM 2014
#34 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2016

The Shiraz was sourced from old vineyards in the Tanunda, Krondorf and Ebenezer districts, Grenache from the Tanunda and Ebenezer region, and Mourvèdre from the Light Pass region. A true reflection of Barossa’s soil and climate, Plexus expresses complex aromas and flavors combining red and dark fruits with savory notes. The palate is framed by youthful fine tannins and subtle savory French oak adds structure and complexity.

93 Points Wine Spectator: "A sophisticated, spicy mix of date bread, cherry compote and clove flavors. Plump and velvety, with persistence and harmony on the finish. Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2026."

92 Points The Wine Advocate: "Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Plexus (a Shiraz, Grenache. Mourvèdre blend) is a little youthfully reticent, offering glimpses at black raspberry and mulberry aromas plus licorice, cracked black pepper, earth and lavender. Medium to full-bodied and still very primary in the mouth, it has a great intensity of red and black fruit flavors supported by ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy."

Kay Brothers Block 6 Shiraz 2006

產區:McLaren Vale, South Australia

The Block 6 vineyard dates back to 1892. Over 110 years later four acres still remain, cropping at extremely low levels, the fruit is of extreme quality. The wine is an excellent example of a big, rich & brooding McLaren Shiraz. After basket pressing & fermentation in open top fermenters built in 1896, the wine is matured for over 2 years in new American & Baltic oak producing intense flavour & great longevity. A wine which will reward patience well.

95 Points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (erobertparker.com)

The Block 6 Shiraz comes from centurion vines plated in 1896. The 2006 Block 6 Shiraz has a very deep garnet color going a little brick in the rim and an evolved, earthy / gamey nose with notes of mulberries, dried plums, kirsch and tobacco plus menthol, cinnamon stick, licorice and espresso. Rich and full yet elegantly constructed, it presents a medium level of very fine tannins, crisp acid and a long layered finish. A very fine glass now, it should continue to cellar to 2019+.

93 Points James Halliday:

A dark, brooding wine of rather large proportions, but put together with aplomb; at the core there is an abundance of sweet fruit, and the structure is dense, tannic and chewy and requires a little time to soften; should reward patience well.

Torbreck The Struie 2006
產區:old vines in the Barossa and Eden Valleys

評分: 92 points Wine Advocate: The 2006 The Struie is 100% Shiraz, sourced from cooler, hillside sites, 70% from Barossa Valley and 30% from Eden Valley with vine age ranging from 46 to 110 years. It was aged for 18 months in 20% new oak. Opaque purple-colored, it delivers a striking bouquet of lead pencil, game, mineral, blueberry compote, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a focused, elegant Shiraz with a plush texture, outstanding depth and grip, and 5-7 years of aging potential. It should drink well through 2026. Torbreck, under the leadership of owner/winemaker David Powell, remains a Barossa Valley benchmark as well as one of the world’s leading wine estates. Drink: 2009 - 2026 | Date Tasted: Feb 09

Two Hands Lily's Garden Shiraz 2006

產區: McLaren Vale, Australia

93 Points Wine Spectator  "Shows some subtlety, sliding its juicy blackberry and plum fruit through a veil of fine-grained tannins, with pepper and mineral overtones. Has a deft sense of harmony and balance. Best from 2010 through 2016."

92 Points Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) - "The 2006 Shiraz Lily’s Garden comes from McLaren Vale. It reveals a complex aromatic array including balsam wood, spice box, violets, earth notes, pepper, blueberry, and blackberry. Layered and rich, it conceals enough ripe tannin to evolve for another 2-3 years. It has outstanding grip, depth, and a lengthy, pure finish. Drink it from 2011 to 2022. "

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:  Inky ruby. Ripe blackberry and boysenberry aromas are youthfully brooding and slightly smoky, opening reluctantly to display fruitcake, baking spices and dried flowers. Deep and chewy, with sappy dark berry flavors and slow-building spiciness. Really fills the mouth, but this isn't exactly heavy, or too sweet. Definitely give this densely packed shiraz some age.

Two Hands Lily's Garden Shiraz 2007

產區: McLaren Vale, Australia

94 points James Halliday (7/2009) :  Unflinchingly in the biggest is best camp; deeply coloured, with luscious, mouthfilling black fruits and dark chocolate; demands that you share the bottle with three others and order a thick rump steak. Not my style, but well-made.

93 points Wine Spectator  (7/2009) : Ripe and peppery, with a spicy note weaving over the black cherry, dried tomato, licorice and mint flavors that keep pulsing through the long, expressive finish. Best from 2010 through 2017.

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (7/2009) : Saturated ruby. Intensely floral, high-pitched aromas of black raspberry, mulberry, violet and rose, lifted by a pungent peppery quality. Spicy dark berry flavors gain flesh and sweetness with air, picking up a smoky mineral quality and a note of candied violet. Finishes juicy and very long, with berry skin and floral notes.

92 points Wine Enthusiast (2/2010) : Somewhat precariously balanced at 15.7% alcohol, this may not turn out to be the most long-lived Shiraz, but it is delicious for current consumption. The tannins are soft and creamy in texture, while the blueberry and black berry fruit is intensely concentrated, tinged with nuances of vanilla, menthol and chocolate.

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate  ((JM) 12/2009):  My favorite of the Garden Series is the 2007 Shiraz Lily’s Garden from McLaren Vale. Purple-colored, it has an enticing perfume of balsam wood, lavender, incense, pepper, bacon, and blueberry. With excellent grip and balance, this smooth-textured, savory Shiraz will improve over the next 2-3 years and drink well through 2020.

Two hands Zippy's Block Shiraz 2007

Perhaps no further ink needs to be spilt on Two Hands Zippy's Block Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2007. In addition to Parker et al who awarded WA93, Josh Raynolds and James Halliday commented the wine as follows:

‘Bright purple. Complex, pungent aromas of raspberry, blackberry, potpourri and incense, with a suave mineral note adding vibrancy. Sweet, minerally and densely packed, with terrific sappy vivacity to the flavors of raspberry and cherry preserves and minerals. With air, the spiciness gained strength and sexy floral notes emerged. Finishes with impressive breadth, fully ripe, gentle tannins and superb length.’ Some 94 points were awarded from Josh Raynolds, International Wine Cellar, August 2009.

‘More life here, with some red fruit providing lift to the concentrated fruitcake and chocolate beneath; the oak and fruit work in tandem and provide a rich, but not overwhelming level of interest on the finish; chewy with some nerve to conclude.’ Rating is 92 by James Halliday in James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion, July 2009. Drink 2020. Date Tasted Feb 2009.

The Zippy's Block Single Vineyard is one of the 6 to 7 single vineyards of Two hands. In terms of quality, wines from these wines play second fiddle only to the Flagship wines(and Ares Shiraz is the top-top Shiraz ) and is ranked much higher than the super-premium range of Garden Series which is from the best regional fruit. Of course, Zippy's Block is from an exceptional single vineyard site in Marananga. This block is special because it always has an extremely low yield and takes longer to reach full maturity. This wine has a complex bouquet followed by an opulent, elegant, viscous and supple palate. Wine style is true Barossa valley (fruit, power and concentration) clothed in an elegant and softer format. Skin contact duration is 19-day, using old French oak for 18 month. Of cork closure, this wine is 14.7% alc.

Vintage 2007 of the Zippy's Block Single Vineyard Barossa Valley is different to the other vintages in that the wine very best perfumed characters, supple tannin and a warmth that has allowed for early drinking. Consider the recommended drink wine of 15 to 20 years, this wine is probably more readied to savour now.
